Stronger Coordination Drives Completion of Relief Operations

The High Level Committee for Foreign Relief Aid (Supplies) Coordination (HL-FRAC) convened on 26 February in Colombo under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara to review progress in distributing foreign disaster relief assistance.
The committee confirmed that the distribution process has reached its final phase, with a continued emphasis on transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency. Officials were instructed to expedite the allocation of remaining supplies in storage after identifying institutional needs, while maintaining strict procedural integrity.
Members also highlighted the importance of ensuring accuracy within the data management system used to track the receipt and distribution of relief items, with audits to be conducted to uphold data integrity. Additionally, specialized disaster-response equipment provided by foreign partners will be transferred to the Tri Forces to strengthen operational readiness.
The Deputy Minister underscored that effective inter-agency coordination remains essential for the successful completion of the relief operations and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to responsible management of foreign assistance.
