Participation of Sri Lankan Delegation at the 65th IFATCA Annual Conference – Bucharest, Romania

The 65th Annual Conference of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) is being held from 20th to 24th April 2026 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Bucharest, Romania, under the theme “Controllers – Attract them, Value them, Keep them.”
Sri Lanka is represented at this international forum by three Air Traffic Controllers:
• Mr. Rasika Ranjikumara – President, Air Traffic Controllers’ Association of Sri Lanka
• Ms. Amani Amarasinghe – Association Council Member
• Mr. Sasanka Kulasekara – Air Traffic Controller
Despite travel challenges arising from regional instability in the Middle East, the delegation successfully reached Bucharest and is actively participating in the conference sessions.
This year’s theme closely aligns with current developments in Sri Lanka’s Air Traffic Management sector. Like several other countries, Sri Lanka is witnessing a gradual migration of experienced Air Traffic Controllers seeking opportunities abroad, influenced by career progression concerns and operational limitations within the existing system.
The participation of the Sri Lankan delegation at IFATCA 2026 highlights the country’s continued engagement with the global Air Traffic Control community. It provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge, share national experiences, and explore international best practices aimed at improving retention, recognition, and professional development of Air Traffic Controllers.
Their presence also ensures that Sri Lanka remains actively connected to global standards in Air Traffic Management while contributing to discussions on the future direction of the profession.
