Deputy Defence Minister Salutes Cadet Excellence

The Annual Passing Out Parade of the Hermann Loos and De Soysa Challenge Trophies 2025 was held with great dignity and discipline today (21 October) at the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Training Centre, Rantambe.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) graced the event as the Chief Guest and was warmly received by Major General Rajitha Premathilake, Director of the NCC. The ceremony began with a Guard Turnout, followed by a splendid parade that reflected the cadets’ precision, teamwork, and commitment.

In his address, Maj. Gen. Jayasekara praised the NCC’s enduring role in shaping disciplined and responsible citizens, highlighting how cadet training fosters leadership, unity, and national reconciliation. He extended heartfelt thanks to the cadet platoons from Jaffna and Batticaloa for their active participation, symbolizing harmony among youth from different regions.

He also commended the officers and teachers who devoted their efforts to guide and mentor the cadets.

At the awards ceremony, Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, won the Hermann Loos Challenge Trophy (Male Category), while Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, received the De Soysa Challenge Trophy (Female Category).

The event was attended by senior officials, Tri-Forces officers, principals, teachers, cadets, and their families, in a shared celebration of discipline, unity, and excellence.
