ICAO Asia Pacific Chief Maps Out Next-Gen Aviation Blueprint in Sri Lanka

On 13 February, a high-level meeting took place at the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), chaired by Mr. Tao Ma, Regional Director of the International Civil Aviation Organization Asia Pacific Region. The event brought together Mr. Sunil Jayarathna, Chairman of CAASL; Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation; industry stakeholders; and CAASL staff.

Key highlights included the presentation of appreciation awards by Mr. Tao Ma to former Directors General of Civil Aviation for their outstanding service. He also formally appointed and issued letters to the newly designated ICAO Global Champions and Ambassadors, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s growing role in global civil aviation.

As part of his State visit, the Regional Director is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Mr. Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Ports & Civil Aviation; Eng. Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku, Deputy Minister; and Mr. W. W. S. Mangala, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation.

The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance multi-dimensional cooperation between the ICAO Asia Pacific Regional Office and Sri Lanka, and support preparations for the upcoming ICAO audit of the country’s civil aviation sector.
