“Sri Lanka Navy Shifts to New HQ, Standing Tall in Its Enduring Spirit”

The Sri Lanka Navy officially shifted into its new Headquarters at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Akuregoda on 9 December, marking a major milestone as the Navy commemorates its 75th anniversary. A ceremonial event was held to mark the transition, with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) attending as the chief guest and receiving full Naval honours, including a Guard of Honour.

In his address, the Deputy Minister praised the Navy’s unwavering professionalism, highlighting its humanitarian contributions during Cyclone Ditwah and the Kalaoya rescue operation. He also honoured the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice and acknowledged personnel still missing in action.

The state-of-the-art headquarters enhances operational coordination, boosts efficiency, and reflects the Navy’s ongoing evolution. The ceremony was attended by senior defence leadership, including Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), the Commanders of the Army and Air Force, the Inspector General of Police, senior tri-forces officers, and other distinguished invitees.
