ICAO Asia Pacific Chief Commences High-Impact Sri Lanka Mission

Mr. Tao Ma, Regional Director for Asia & the Pacific of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), has commenced a high-impact State visit to Sri Lanka aimed at strengthening bilateral aviation cooperation and supporting the country’s preparations for its upcoming ICAO audit.
The visit follows high-level engagements during the 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada, which involved Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer (DGCA & CEO); Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar, ICAO Secretary General; and Eng. Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku, Deputy Minister of Ports & Civil Aviation. Further discussions were held at the ICAO Asia Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand, ahead of the visit.
Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport on 12 February 2026, Mr. Tao Ma was warmly welcomed by Capt. Daminda Rambukwella and Mr. Rayhan Wanniappa, Deputy Director General (Air Transport & Security Regulation).
During the visit, Mr. Tao Ma is scheduled to meet with key Sri Lankan officials, including:
- Anura Karunathilaka, Minister of Ports & Civil Aviation
- Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku, Deputy Minister of Ports & Civil Aviation
- W. W. S. Mangala, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation
- Sunil Jayarathna, Chairman of CAASL
The mission reinforces Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing aviation safety, regulatory excellence, and strategic collaboration with the ICAO Asia Pacific Regional Office.
