Breaking Through: Sri Lanka’s Export Leap

On August 1st, 2025, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) celebrates 46 years of building up the nation’s export sector. From grassroots beginnings, the EDB carved out a national export culture and reached out globally through early buyer-seller meets and trade fairs.

Through the ’90s and 2000s, it rolled out digital tools, branched out regionally, and pushed forward national brands like Ceylon Spices. Embracing e-commerce, the Board mapped out fresh strategies and pulled in international acclaim.

Recently, the EDB has ramped up exports beyond US$16 billion and plans to step up further by expanding into high-value sectors and linking up with global partners through strategic MoUs.

With steady vision, the EDB continues to break through barriers, carving out new paths and driving forward Sri Lanka’s bold leap into the global trade arena.
