Deputy Defence Minister Conferred with Egyptian Ambassador on Bilateral Agenda

H.E. Adel Ibrahim, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sri Lanka, conferred with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) during a courtesy call at the Deputy Minister’s Office on 23 December.

The discussion, held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, covered matters of mutual interest, reflecting the long-standing friendship and strong ties between Sri Lanka and Egypt. On behalf of His Excellency the President and the people of Sri Lanka, the Deputy Minister expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by the Egyptian leadership and people.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted Sri Lanka’s ongoing post-crisis recovery and rebuilding efforts, with emphasis on transport, health, education, housing, and social services, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to restoring normalcy across all sectors.

Both parties expressed intent to enhance defence and military cooperation through expertise exchange, capacity-building initiatives, high-level delegation visits, and short-, medium-, and long-term training programmes.

H.E. the Ambassador commended Sri Lanka’s structured and effective management of the recent national crisis, noting the unity and resilience of the people, which should be conveyed to the international community.

The courtesy call concluded with a reaffirmation to build upon historic friendship and further strengthen government-level cooperation and goodwill between the two nations.
