Deputy Minister and Defence Secretary Lead Unified Efforts to Oversee Security at BIA

A high-level meeting was held today (23 October) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, jointly chaired by Deputy Minister of Ports and Aviation, Hon. Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku MP, and Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) to strengthen security coordination and oversight at Sri Lanka’s main international gateway.

The Defence Secretary highlighted the critical role of BIA in national security, economic growth, and international connectivity, praising the dedication of all stakeholders and urging continuous collaboration to maintain top safety standards.

The meeting addressed illegal activities, inter-agency coordination, and response mechanisms, agreeing to establish a unified framework for closer collaboration and streamlined security efforts.

Following the discussions, the Deputy Minister and Defence Secretary inspected BIA premises to review security measures, accompanied by senior officials from Customs, Immigration, Police, Civil Aviation, Military Intelligence, and Tri-Forces.
