Authorities Move In as Probe Kicks Off into Cinnamon Air Cessna Incident at Gregory Lake


On 07 January 2025, a Cinnamon Air–operated Cessna 208 Grand Caravan aircraft bearing registration 4R-CAE was involved in an incident at Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya. Acting under the guidance of the Ministry of Ports & Civil Aviation, Capt. Daminda Rambukwella, Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer, promptly moved in and deployed an investigative team to the site following the initial report.
In line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13, a formal investigation committee comprising experts in aircraft engineering and flight operations has been appointed, and the inquiry has officially kicked off.
Recovery operations are currently underway and have been stepped up with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Navy, Police, and local civilians, including boat operators who supported the initial response. The investigation team is also working with master divers to aid recovery efforts.
Once recovered, the aircraft will be transported to Katunayake for further technical examinations. Authorities will roll out additional updates as the investigation progresses.
