“Looking Back to Build On, Looking Forward to Sail With: A Franco-Lankan Moment”

On July 31, within the calm confines of Colombo’s Ministry of Defence, a meeting unfolded not with grandeur, but with quiet purpose. His Excellency Rémi Lambert, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka, paid a courteous visit to Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), marking a moment where the past and future of bilateral cooperation met in poised conversation.

Their dialogue touched on matters of mutual concern—defence collaboration, maritime security, and regional capacity building—while also reflecting on France’s valued and consistent engagement in Sri Lanka’s strategic landscape. Special appreciation was extended to the significant contributions of the Regional Centre for Maritime Studies (RCMS) at KDU, a symbol of shared vision in the Indian Ocean region.

With Colonel Paltriaux, the French Defence Attaché, also present, the meeting echoed not only protocol, but partnership—where France and Sri Lanka continue to look back with respect, and forward with intention, across the vast waters that connect them.
