Sri Lanka Stitches Success at Source Fashion London 2026

Sri Lanka’s apparel industry made a strong impression at Source Fashion London 2026, held from 13 to 15 January at Olympia London, cementing the nation’s position as a reliable and competitive global sourcing destination. The Sri Lanka Pavilion, featuring 20 stalls including 12 SMEs, was organised by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka High Commission in the UK, aiming to tap into new buyer networks and scale up apparel exports.

The event carried added significance as Sri Lanka gained duty-free access to the UK market from 1 January 2026, under a liberalised trade framework that allows up to 100% of inputs to be sourced globally. This removed previous constraints, enhanced flexibility, and improved competitiveness for exporters.

The exhibition was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by His Excellency Nimal Senadheera, Sri Lanka High Commissioner; Lord Hannett of Everton, UK Trade Envoy to Sri Lanka; and Mr. Binupa Liyanage, EDB Board Director. The Pavilion showcased apparel, textiles, and accessories while highlighting adherence to international quality, ethical, and sustainability standards. A dedicated Creative Sri Lanka 2030 stall featured five brands, demonstrating innovation, craftsmanship, and design excellence.

A highlight of the exhibition was the launch of the National Export Brand, “Your Vital Island,” representing sustainability, competence, and authenticity, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s commitment to high-quality, innovative, and ethical exports. Catwalk shows, panel discussions, and expert forums further enhanced visibility and engagement with international buyers, while panelist Mr. Jeevith Senaratne highlighted Sri Lanka’s adoption of AI and advanced technologies in apparel manufacturing.

Sri Lanka’s participation signalled readiness to meet global market demands and strengthened its position under the UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), establishing the nation as a sustainable, ethical, and competitive sourcing hub with diverse and innovative offerings.
