Defence Secretary delves into National Cadet Corps progress

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne made an inspection visit to the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Headquarters in Pamankada yesterday (Dec 23).

Director of the NCC Maj. Gen. Priyantha Jayasundara (Retd) received the Defence Secretary on his arrival.

NCC is an organization functioning under the purview of the Defence Ministry that envisages streamlining the school cadetting in the country by establishing a cadet platoon in every school possible and thereby grooming youth to be dynamic, versatile and disciplined citizens with extraordinary leadership qualities to face utmost challenges in the society.

Gen. Gunaratne inquired into the progress, current activities and upcoming events at a meeting he chaired during the visit. NCC administrative officials including the Director Maj. Gen. Jayasundara briefed the progress and plans afoot, during the session.

The day’s programme included a tree planting event. A memento was also presented to the Defence Secretary in order to mark the visit.

Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence, Maj. Gen. Dinesh Nanayakkara was present during the visit.
