SL and Japan looking for avenues to further strengthen Defence Cooperation

His Excellency Mizukoshi Hideaki the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Sri Lanka made a courtesy call on Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne at the Defence Ministry, today (Dec 15).

During the ensuing discussion avenues to further enhance defence cooperation between the two countries were taken up for discussion.

The mutual conversation between the Defence Secretary and Ambassador Mizukoshi also included opportunities for people to people exchange and tourism sector development in the island.

The Japanese envoy was thankful for facilitating Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force Ships during their visits to Sri Lanka.

Gen. Gunaratne also assured his fullest cooperation and support to strengthen long existing ties between the two countries during the session.

Mementoes were also exchanged to mark the occasion.

The meeting was held in keeping with the stipulated healthcare guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Military Liaison Officer Maj. Gen. Dinesh Nanayakkara, Japanese Embassy Officials including the Defence Attaché Capt. Gaku Fukaura were present at the meeting.
