Honouring Sacrifice, Powering Dreams: RSA Backs War Heroes’ Children

The Ranaviru Seva Authority held a special ceremony on March 6 to award scholarships to children of fallen and disabled veterans under its educational empowerment programme. The event was conducted under the patronage of Defence Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd). Students from families of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and Sri Lanka Police who have qualified for higher education will receive financial support for four years while pursuing degree programmes in 32 fields including medicine, engineering, IT, law, and management. During the ceremony, the Defence Secretary symbolically presented a laptop to a visually impaired student and commended the academic achievements of the children of veterans. The programme also announced that monthly scholarship allowances have been increased with effect from January 2026, further strengthening educational support for the families of those who sacrificed for the nation. The event was also attended by RSA Chairman S. D. Kohona (Retd), along with senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and representatives of the Tri-Forces who extended their encouragement to the scholarship recipients and their families.
