Seas of Security Navy’s Silent War on Drugs Reviewed at Akuregoda

Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) visited the Special Operations Centre at Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters in Akuregoda on 21 April to observe the “Ratama Ekata” National Programme under the Government’s “Dignified Life – Secure Nation” initiative. The visit aimed to assess the Navy’s ongoing operations against drug trafficking, review progress, provide guidance, and convey Government appreciation to naval personnel.
He was received with a traditional naval welcome by the Commander of the Navy and briefed by senior officers on the scope and progress of operations. The briefing highlighted modern tactical and strategic approaches being used to counter drug trafficking networks across both maritime and land borders.
The Sri Lanka Navy continues extensive, uninterrupted operations around the island, deploying significant resources to combat the drug menace and protect future generations. The Deputy Minister commended the Navy’s sustained maritime surveillance and operational commitment, and directed further strengthening and technological enhancement of ongoing efforts to reinforce national security.
He emphasized that the Navy’s dedication to building a drug-free nation deserves national respect and reaffirmed the Government’s full support for the programme. Senior naval officials, including the Chief of Staff of the Navy, were also present.
