“Cradles of Courage: Minister Jayasekara’s Tribute to Sri Lanka’s Emissaries of Hope”

On June 12, Acting Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), journeyed to the Senehasa Education, Resource, Research and Information Centre (SERRIC) — a sanctuary devoted to nurturing the children of Sri Lanka’s armed forces, police, and civil security personnel who face special challenges.
Established through the vision and collaboration of the Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority, SERRIC stands as a testament to compassionate leadership, blending specialized care with innovative education. Welcomed warmly by Commandant Brigadier Upendra Karunarathna, the Minister engaged with the centre’s core through detailed briefings, immersive classroom visits, and a moving showcase of children’s performances and documentary storytelling.
The children’s presentation of a memento was more than a gesture — it was a symbol of trust and the deep bonds forged within this nurturing community. In response, Major General Jayasekara affirmed the government’s unwavering support, recognizing that true national strength grows from inclusive care and shared humanity.
Together with senior defence and RSA officials, the visit underscored a powerful truth: that the future of a nation lies in its ability to embrace all its children, especially those who need it most. SERRIC shines as a beacon of hope and resilience — a global model of how kindness and commitment forge enduring legacies.
