Sri Lanka Navy Rushes to the Rescue, Bringing Integrity Star Crew Ashore Safely

In a swift and coordinated response to a distress call, the Sri Lanka Navy successfully rescued the crew of the merchant vessel MV Integrity Star on 25 October 2025 and brought them safely to the Hambantota International Port this morning (26 October). The vessel had been stranded approximately 100 nautical miles south of Sri Lanka following a main engine failure, leaving its crew in a desperate situation.
Acting on directives from the Ministry of Defence, the Navy promptly deployed SLNS Samudura for a search and rescue mission through the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. Demonstrating professionalism and precision, the operation ensured the safe recovery of all 14 crew members—nationals of India, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, MV Morning Glory, another merchant vessel in the vicinity, stood ready to assist, reflecting commendable international cooperation in maritime emergency response.
The MRCC Colombo, operating from Naval Headquarters, continues to lead Sri Lanka’s efforts to safeguard lives at sea. Upholding the nation’s commitment to international maritime conventions, the Centre coordinates rescue missions not only within Sri Lanka’s search and rescue region but also in adjacent international waters, extending vital aid to mariners and fishing communities in distress.
