Declaring a period to hand over unlicensed guns

Ministry of Defence has declared a grace period from 06.02.2023 to 15.03.2023 for persons who possess guns without license to hand over the guns to the Police, vide ref the government gazette  No. 2318/02 on 06.02.2023.

During the aforesaid period, all guns that are being  kept without license should be surrendered to the nearest Police Station. No prosecution will be initiated against persons who surrender such unlicensed guns during the period.

At the termination of the period, islandwide operation will be conducted by the Police to apprehend the persons who possess guns without license.

The government emphasizes to all the persons who possess guns without license to make use of this period to avoid arrest and prosecution.
