Hands Steady, Hearts Aligned in the Shadows of Welisara

The 2025 IPSC Nationals concluded in quiet splendour at the Wave’n Lake Navy Banquet Hall  in             Welisara  a venue as composed and commanding as the sport it hosted. Beneath soft lights and solemn flags, Sri Lanka’s premier marksmen gathered not just to compete, but to honour a tradition where precision is not just a skill but a creed.

Presiding as Chief Guest, Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) brought to the fore a message of resolve and responsibility. He was warmly received by Air Vice Marshal Ruwan Chandima, President of the National Rifle Association of Sri Lanka (NRASL), whose leadership continues to anchor the nation’s shooting sport community in strength and integrity.

Over five intense days, 270 competitors representing 16 institutions — including the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force — demonstrated unwavering focus and discipline across the Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) and Handgun Level III matches. Their synchronized movements and faultless execution reflected not only personal mastery but a growing national ethos of controlled power and civic responsibility.

The ceremony’s symbolism deepened with the lighting of the traditional oil lamps, a ritual that cast golden arcs over the silhouettes of athletes and officials alike — a quiet metaphor for inner light and outward steadiness. Twelve top-tier competitors were honoured for their outstanding performances, with medals and accolades offered not in clamor, but in reverent silence and mutual respect.

The presence of military dignitaries, IPSC officials, and seasoned sharpshooters lent the event a distinguished gravity. Yet beyond the medals and marksmanship, there was an unspoken elegance — a reminder that in the quiet precision of each shot lies a harmony between control and courage.

As the final salute echoed softly across the lake’s stillness, it was clear this was more than a sporting event. It was a ceremony of composure — where hands stayed steady, hearts aligned, and a new chapter of Sri Lankan marksmanship was inscribed in disciplined silence under the shadows of Welisara.
